Smart kids are not afraid to speak up. They are sensitive about what’s happening around them and form an opinion about what they believe to be the right or better thing in any given situation. They instinctively know what is the proper thing to say. Smart kids seldom shout or argue or even become emotional. They know how to be effective and choose their words carefully. They say what they have to say, calmly and politely. They listen to what others have to say, with due respect. They can stand up firmly for what they believe without appearing to be rude or disrespectful. Above all smart kids are not easily intimidated. They also know when to be quiet!
Speaking up does not mean being a loud mouth. It means first listening well, thinking about what to say and responding as articulately as you can. A good vocabulary helps.
